PRE-POST CARE INFO
WHAT TO EXPECT
IN PREPARATION FOR YOUR EYEBROW APPOINTMENT:
BEFORE YOUR LIP BLUSH APPOINTMENT:
YOUR LIPS MUST NOT BE DRY/CHAPPED for your appointment. If your lips are dry, I will need to reschedule your session and you will be charged a cancellation fee. It is recommended to exfoliate 3 DAYS prior to your appointment to remove any dry/dead skin - use a lip scrub or make your own using a little olive/coconut oil and sugar. ONE WEEK PRIOR to your appointment you MUST moisturize your lips DAILY (Take an extra step and try using Aquaphor in place of your usual lip balm).
*IMPORTANT* Cold sores are a RISK of lip blush tattooing. If you have had a cold sore in the past (even just ONCE) it is advised you consult with a physician (of which we can provide through The Hill Centre) and be perscribed an anti-viral medication PRIOR to any lip procedure. This will help avoid an outbreak.
If you have not had a cold sore before, I also recommend any clients take L-lysine (if they are able) for 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO & 2 WEEKS FOLLOWING their appointment to reduce the risk.
PARAMEDICAL TATTOOING: AREOLA, SCARS, STRETCHMARKS, ETC
-
Discontinue the use of exfoliant products such as AHA, glycolic acids, retinol, etc. on area 2 WEEKS prior to your appointment.
-
NO waxing or use of chemical hair removal products within 48 hours of your appointment.
-
Moisturize your skin! Apply lotion daily for AT LEAST 1 WEEK leading up to your appointment.
-
Botox or cosmetic fillers should be done AT LEAST 2 - 4 WEEKS before/after.
-
DO NOT consume alcohol, caffeine or take any anti-coagulants (blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or Niacin) within 48 hours before your procedure. This will cause excess bleeding and may affect your results. You may take these medications once your procedure has been completed.
-
Keep hydrated! Hydrated skin is happy skin, and is best for tattooing.
-
You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle, especially the days leading up to/following your cycle.
-
For added comfort I do offer pre-numbing when necessary select procedures. If you wish to apply numbing yourself prior to your appointment, please speak with me first and I would be more than happy to make recommendations, as necessary. DO NOT APPLY NUMBING WITHOUT SPEAKING WITH ME FIRST! Some products are not acceptable for paramedical tattooing.
-
We will not be able to tattoo/microneedle over any broken skin such as active breakouts/blemishes, sores, or moles.
-
If you have a history of anxiety or are struggling with trauma surrounding your circumstance for this procedure please discuss this during your consult/in-person assessment so I can do my best to accommodate.
AFTERCARE
EYEBROW (PMU) POST CARE
After care is crucial, it is very important to follow these instructions for 10 DAYS during the ENTIRE healing period for proper healing & color retention. Results will vary for all individuals, and results are not guaranteed.
-
Use a gentle cleanser (use water and lather in your hands) to wash your eyebrows morning & night, everyday for 7-10 days or until the flaking has stopped.
-
Make sure you blot the completely dry with a clean towel after washing. Allow NO WATER to collect/sit on the brow area. DO NOT RUB OR WIPE
-
Apply the recommended aftercare product provided to your eyebrows morning & night. A very small amount to each brow with clean fingers. (The size of a grain of rice should be sufficient for BOTH eyebrows)
-
Oily skin types may be told to avoid ointment all together or to use a lotion-like product rather than ointment, and allow for more of a dry healing process for the 7-10 days.
-
DO NOT expose your eyebrows to the sun during the healing process. UV Rays can alter the pigment of your tattoo and cause damage to healing skin. Following the healing process, SPF is important for the longevity your micropigmentation.
-
DO NOT sweat excessively for 10 DAYS. Sweat contains salt and bacteria, of which dripping into the healing area can infect and prematurely fade your brow tattoo. Salt in the sweat may also alter the colour of your tattoo. Moderate exercise is fine, but it is typically recommended to avoid any during the first 3 days after your procedure.
-
DO NOT soak or allow water directly run or spray on your brow tattoo. This is especially important in the first few days, you do not want to wash out any pigment trying to settle/heal.
-
DO NOT use Vaseline on your tattoo.
-
DO NOT use ANY makeup, creams, exfoliants on the brows for 10 DAYS.
-
AVOID sauna’s, pools, and steam rooms.
WHAT TO EXPECT...
Expect to feel some tightness in the treatment area. You may have a “heavy brow” feeling or a slight headache. Your eyebrows will look darkest for the first few days, then scab or peel, realizing their actual color once fully healed at 4 weeks. Always keep your brow area clean with a moderate amount of aftercare ointment. Avoid getting foundation or other makeup products on your brow tattoo, as it makes them look dull.
-
DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. This can be a 2 step process. It takes time. BE PATIENT during your 10 day healing process, your eyebrows will change and appear different from day to day. TRUST THE PROCESS!
-
Immediately after your procedure your eyebrows will appear DARKER and more defined and this will last up to 2 WEEKS. Your brow tattoo can appear more solid, hair strokes may seem to disappear and it may look wet and painted on.
-
Around days 4 or 5, you will experience flaking and your eyebrows may look dry. DO NOT PICK. It is crucial you let any dryness fall off naturally. If flakes are picked off prematurely then missing hair stokes will result, causing patchy eyebrows and can lead to scarring.
-
Your brow tattoo will take up to 4 WEEKS to fully heal.
-
When the flaking comes off, the hair strokes may seem faint. This is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brow tattoo, and is often milky. Wait a few weeks and the hair strokes will become clearer. Colour will continue to change on a daily basis until all healing is complete after 4 weeks.
-
You may experience itchiness in the brows after the 10 days, and for up to 2 months due to the healing process of the dermal layer.
-
Not everyone's microblading/hair-stokes in the eyebrows can heal clean and crisp. Hair-strokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal more crisp and defined. Those who bleed more may tend to need more touchups as the blood pushes the pigment out while we tattoo.
FOLLOW UP SESSIONS + COLOUR BOOST
Allow your brows a MINIMUM of 6-12 WEEKS to heal before booking a touch up. This gives you the time to decide if you do or do not need a touch up appointment. It's takes a full 12 weeks for colour to settle completely. It is your responsibility to book your follow-ups or colour boost appointments. Please keep the high demand in mind. If your tattoo comes back too faded, due to waiting too long to get in for your touch up, then additional charges may apply.
-
Follow-ups are typically done within the first 3 MONTHS after your initial appointment.
-
Permanent Makeup is often a 2 (or even 3) step process.
-
The first session is used to build shape and gain symmetry.
-
The second session is used to perfect and add density.
-
This is a PROCESS, some clients may need multiple sessions to achieve their desired results.
-
Do not expect perfect results after the first session.
-
Darker skin and oily skin women, permanent makeup will not look as bold or sharp compared to lighter, dryer skin type clients.
-
Some client’s skin may have a harder time retaining pigment and may require additional sessions. Other variables and lifestyles can also effect retention and the amount of sessions required.
LONG-TERM CARE
THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS as everyone’s result will vary due to skin type, lifestyle, the initial 10 DAYS of care during healing, and long-term care of your brow tattoo.
-
Use at least SPF 50 to protect your brow tattoo. Sun exposure (UV rays) will cause fading and can alter the color of your tattoo.
-
DO NOT use chemical exfoliants on the eyebrow area, causing the brows to fade faster.
-
DO NOT get laser on your brow area (IPL etc), some lasers may also change the color of the ink.
-
As the tattoo fades, the strokes will get faint and less defined.
-
Maintenance is required to maintain desired results. Touchups are done on average every 9 - 24 MONTHS to maintain you brow tattoo.
-
Microblading/Hair-stroke brows typically last 1-3 years.
-
LIP BLUSH (PMU) POST CARE
Your tattoo will look darkest for the first few days, then scab or peel, realizing their actual color once fully healed at 4 weeks. Always keep your lip area clean and apply a moderate amount of aftercare ointment. Avoid getting lipstick or other makeup on your lips as it will dull the tattoo.
-
Lips will feel swollen and very dry and you may experience a burning sensation after your treatment. As the tattoo fades, the strokes will get faint and less defined.
-
Apply recommended aftercare/ointment on lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 14 DAYS post treatment. Do not allow lips to become dry. This may interfere with healed color, and/or lead to dry/cracked lips. During the day if lips feel dry, apply a liberal amount of ointment. Just tap on skin and do not rub in. ** Always use a clean Q-tip or applicator, DO NOT USE FINGERS to apply ointment to the lips area. This will reduce the risk of infection. **
-
For the first 2 to 3 DAYS drink ONLY through straws.
-
NO kissing.
-
AVOID toothpaste on the lips for 1 WEEK after your procedure.
-
After lips are no longer tender to the touch, they may become flaky. This is normal and is expected. Please do not pick or scratch. This may significantly reduce the amount pigment absorption.
-
AVOID the Sun and tanning beds pre and post procedure. Be sure to use a sun block once lips are healed.
-
DO NOT use any Glycolic, Hydroxy or fruit acid products on lips.
-
AVOID direct water pressure, pools, and other bodies of water, until healed.
-
You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed.
-
Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects and will dissipate in a short period of time.
-
AVOID oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing.
-
Lips are a muscle, and may require a touch-up session to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable. Some clients will yield very strong healed lip color. Others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis. Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results.
-
Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning. If you have a history of Fever Blisters, Cold Sores or Chicken Pox, it is advised you to speak with a doctor for an anti-viral medication prior to ANY lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak. Follow all before and after instructions after all lip treatments.
-
Lips heal in 3 stages: Too dark - Too light - Just right. This process takes 1 MONTH to happen.
Lip Blush follow up/touch up MUST be scheduled 30 to 45 days apart from initial session to for best color retention.
PARAMEDICAL TATTOO AFTERCARE

-
For the first day, the tattoo will bleed and/or weep a mixture of ink and blood. The color of the tattoo will appear to be quite dark. DO NOT PANIC - this is completely normal.
-
During the healing process, the ink and blood will scab/flake off, and the true color of the tattoo will be revealed. It is important not to let the tattoo get too dry. The tattoo will mature over the course of several weeks.
-
PLEASE NOTE: If you find the color is too light, you can always have more pigment added.
-
If you have a Tegaderm Bandage (aka SaniDerm, etc) on, please leave it on for 7 DAYS. AVOID water (other than short, not-too-hot showers). Your tattoo should be fully healed once you are able to remove the bandage after 7 days.
